Punk, share Rosalía and Madame: what the unreleased X Factor songs are like

Punk, quotes Rosalía and Madame. There’s a bit of everything among the unreleased songs from the eighteenth edition of ), Mimì and Punkcake (for Manuel Agnelli’s team) and Lowrah (for Paola Iezzi’s roster), will perform the songs in this evening’s episode, the third to last before Thursday’s semi-final next and the final on December 5th in Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples.

The unreleased episode is always the most awaited of every edition of the Sky talent show: it is the moment in which the aspiring pop stars who participate in the program each present their business card. Over the years, unreleased songs have lost a bit of centrality on mai di me” to Marco Mengoni of “Dove si vola” – in 2009 Noemi was invited to sing her “Briciole” despite having already been eliminated: the hit catapulted her to the top of the charts), in recent years the boys propose original songs already at the auditions. Yet it remains a fundamental stage in the competitors’ journey. Here’s what the ones in this edition sound like.

Lorenzo Salvetti – “A thousand concerts”

“They say love is not screaming at each other / I remember that bench as if it were ours / this melody unites us like a red thread / and you never change, and I never change”. A ballad that starts quietly and then explodes in the chorus, when the singer-songwriter sings: “And I, who die of love and you don’t / I apologized to you at night on the means of transport”. Among the authors is his mentor Achille Lauro.

Les Votives – “Monsters”

Coretti à la Kasabian, a verse à la Strokes (“It was so loud for me, that I couldn’t hear you scream it / huddle up in a corner with no light, say that you don’t need it”). But then the chorus is ultrapop, very sticky: “’Cause I’m a monster, monster / you think that I’m not able to feel / ’cause I’m your monster, monster / and I’m not that easy to please ”. They make you dance.

Patagarri – “Caravan”

A piece worthy of the worst bar in Caracas: “I’m on a caravan, ‘fuck the Cadillac / if with music, I don’t make money / I’ll do it anyway at the cost of eating at Caritas”. It recalls the bohemian attitude of certain pieces by their mentor, Achille Lauro, who also appears as co-author here.

Frankly – “Forge”

“The distance is preparing to hurt us / you see me red because I think of you laughing naked / without problems I can raise barricades / but my thoughts over your tongue change”. It is the naive part of this edition. The song moves between singer-songwriter and electropop. In certain passages, Giuni Russo recalls: “You see me moved because I no longer know how to laugh alone / your bones like a dumbbell / to gather myself when I lose my balance”.

Punkcake – “Gloom”

Distorted, dirty and raw sounds. “Dissonance, lack of agreement / instance of such inconsistencies / a mingling of sounds, that strike the ear / harshly, a wargasm like aaah”, they philosophize at the beginning. They seem to come out of a school courtyard during an occupation, rather than from the talent show that wants to find the new star of Italian music.

Mimì – “Where are we going”

Text and music are by Madame and it is more of a hardship than a delight, because the Vicenza femcee of “Voce” has a very recognisable, even too personal, writing that ends up devouring the talent – which is not lacking – of Mimì. Listening to her, one really has the impression of listening to Madame, rather than the singer: “And if you drive the car, you will have to go slowly / I will scream every now and then, because it scares me / you can’t judge me, I go to therapy / I have problems of the greats, that’s how I am.”

Lowrah – “Malasuerte”

The inevitable quotation Rosalía: “He introduces me to the friend of the friend of the friend / he’s new but he understands the language very well / euros, pesos, dirhams, a cigarette / and then away, love doesn’t exist so tell me a lie ”. The production is by Andry The Hitmaker, real name Adrea Moroni, born in 1995, already behind the successes of Guè, Salmo, Vegas Jones. Already heard it.
