MMW24: Sanremo 2025 will have more than 24 songs
As part of Milan Music Week, Carlo Conti gave an update on the 2025 Festival. The host and artistic director announced a change to the regulations: there will be more songs than the 24 previously announced. He has not yet specified how many, but he also announced that the names will be revealed on December 1st on TG1 at 1.30pm.
“We are at the final stage, I’m waiting for the 26th when registrations and proposals will close. Currently I have narrowed it down to around twenty songs, plus a few more songs that are in the balance of pieces that I need to cover. On the one hand it is right to follow the market and on the other it is important to put important content for the Festival”. Conti finally announced that Friday evening, the cover night, could include pairings and duets (so as to reduce the number of songs).
Also present at the event, moderated by Radio24 journalist Marta Cagnola, was Claudio Fasulo, RAI deputy prime time director who has returned to the helm of the Festival’s production machine. Fasulo confirmed that the direction taken in recent years is the one that will also be followed this time: “There is no longer the song from Sanremo, but there is a progressive overlap between the songs presented at the festival and those actually heard in the country . If any of the songs we are listening to now had been presented years ago the artistic direction would have fainted.”
Conti also joked about the story of the alleged Pink Floyd reunion that he tried to organize: “The one who met David Gilmour and spoke to him for an hour in the hotel wasn’t me, it was someone ‘such and such’. Anything goes, even the lists I read that are imaginative. The charm and beauty of the festival, everyone does their job to raise attention on the event.
