Pippo Baudo, author of songs: goodbye to an icon of TV and music
Giuseppe Raimondo Vittorio ‘Pippo’ Baudo was missing today, at 89 years old: his was one of the most important figures of post -war Italian popular culture: one of the inventors of television as we know it in our day. And not only that: his phrase “I invented him!”, Which he often used for the musical talents he had discovered and launched in his programs and in his 13 Sanremo festivals. Where he presented, and not only: he intervened on the songs, he gave suggestions. In short, he was the artistic director, really – not limiting himself to the choice of the songs.
Because Pippo Baudo was above all a man of television, but also a man of music. Not only for having conducted so many festivals – none like him -, but also for writing some songs from others interpreted, such as the acronyms of the television programs he presented.
