“Natural High”, preview of Perfume Genius’ dance music

Genius Perfume publish the first preview of the soundtrack of “The Lesson”his new work of music and dance with Kate Wallick.

Mike Hadreas (Genius Perfume) and choreographer Kate Wallich have come together to create “The Lesson”a new full-length music and dance work commissioned by Seattle Theater Groupinspired by The Piano Teacherthe novel by Elfriede Jelinek later adapted to the cinema by Michael Haneke.

The work will premiere in REDCAT from Los Angeles with performances starting February 18, and in March he will continue his tour with performances in New York, Paris, London and other cities. The soundtrack features all-new music from Perfume Genius. The first teaser, “Natural High”, their first release since their Grammy-nominated seventh album, has already been released. “Glory”. Co-produced by Pascal Stevensosthe six-minute song ascends from keyboard figures to synths and culminates in a dancefloor house blast.

“The Lesson” follows Hadreas and Walich’s 2019 collaboration “The Sun Still Burns Here,” from their follow-up album Perfume Genius. “Ugly Season”. The new work explores what happens when desire has nowhere to go, exploring repression, longing, authority and submission. It is created and performed by Hadreas, Wallich, Alan Wyffels and Tate Justus.

Perfume Genius will also carry its Duo Tour to the United Kingdom, with two performances on October 27 and 28 at the Union Chapel in London (sold out), in which Hadreas will perform alongside his frequent collaborator, keyboardist and co-writer Alan Wyffels, with songs from his catalogue.
