David Gilmour ready for tour: how did the concerts go rehearsal
In a few days, precisely on September 27th, from Rome David Gilmour will kick off a tour in support of her new album, “Luck and strange”, (read our review here) released last September 6th, nine years after “Rattle that lock” (read here the review). The tour, which marks the guitarist’s return to tour after eight years from the last show at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2016, includes as first dates six concerts at the Circo Massimo in Rome, before the dates in London, Los Angeles and New York.
To kick off the live series, as previously announced, Gilmour decided to let some fans participate in his preparations for the tour with two open rehearsals, which took place on 20 and 21 September at the Brighton Centre.
According to setlist.fm, the two evenings, which functioned as dress rehearsals in front of an audience of 1,500 people for each date (with tickets therefore very limited, at the price of only 30 pounds), followed the same setlists. With two sets and an encore, Gilmour performed 22 songs live, taken from both his solo record and that of Pink Floyd, thus presenting songs from his new album live for the first time, along with classics.
After opening the evenings with two instrumental songs, “5 AM” from “Rattle that lock” and “Black cat” from “Luck and strange”, followed by the title track of the latest album, the guitarist proposed some songs by the historic English band. As promised in a recent interview with “Mojo”, three songs in particular by Pink Floyd were not played at the Brighton live shows and are not part of the tour setlist: “Run like hell”, “Another brick in the wall” and “Money”. As confirmed in recent chats, Giomour played, among other things, “Comfortably numb”, chosen for the finale, and “Wish you were here”.
