David Byrne: Rosalía also in his Valentine's Day playlist

David Byrne, a playlist dedicated to Afro psychedelia

David Byrne has made it available – via his official website, on Spotify And Apple Music – a playlist called “Everyone Does Everything (Afro Psychedelic 2.0)”, dedicated to artists and bands with African ancestry.

“I put together some famous songs and some by lesser-known artists,” explained the former Talking Heads leader in the introduction to the work: “There is an entire subgenre of African psychedelia: for the moment, in this sense I haven't yet managed to follow the rabbit down the hole.”

“Is African psychedelia different from Anglo-Saxon psychedelia?”, continues Byrne: “Sometimes it's funkier: Anglo-Saxon artists often tend to be more baroque, using the orchestra, but generalizing is probably wrong. The beautiful thing about this movement is that everyone was doing everything, and it didn't end in the Seventies: in the playlist there are also contemporary artists who to my ears seem inspired by this style.”

In addition to popular artists – among others, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Sly & The Family Stone, Funkadelic, Roots, Love and Kelis – and contemporary artists – FKA Twigs, present with two songs – the playlist includes songs by Lafayette Afro Rock Band, Rotary Connection, Cymande, William Onyeabor and others.
