White Stripes, deluxe vinyl for the 20th anniversary of Get Behind Me Satan
THE White Stripes celebrate twenty years since the publication of their penultimate album, released in 2005, “Get Behind Me Satan” (read the review here) with a deluxe package available only through their vinyl subscription service, Vault. The gift includes two vinyl LPs, a 7-inch vinyl single and a Blu-ray with footage shot during the 2005 tour of Jack and Meg White in Central America and South America. Registrations are open until January 31st.
Side one of the matte red LP features demos of ten songs, among them radically different versions of what they would become
“I’m Slowly Turning Into You” And “Over and Over and Over”. This disc also includes “SeminolesBlues”which was never recorded or performed.
Side two collects six previously unreleased takes, including a version of “City Lights” which later appeared on the album by Jack White of 2016 “Acoustic Recordings” (read the review here) and a gospel version of “I’m Lonely (But I Ain’t That Lonely Yet)”.
The second LP, pressed on white vinyl, offers thirteen previously unreleased live recordings from the tour in support of “Get Behind Me Satan”one of which, “Blue Orchid”can be listened to below.
The vinyl single includes an early version of
“Forever For Her (Is Over For Me)”
with electric guitar, electric piano and organ, unlike the version later released with acoustic guitar and marimba. Side B is
“Spitting Tracks”
which Third Man Records calls “one of the great white whales in Stripes history.” It is reported: “Originating from a time when Jack was still a full-time upholsterer and revisited many times over the course of the band’s existence, this hypnotic, repetitive riff structure has never really found a place. We have yet to discover other attempts even halfway decent through the song.”
The Blu-ray collects footage shot on tour by
David James Swanson
less like an actual film and more like a surprising and complementary statement of the unique and chaotic period that i
White Stripes
they lived in that era.
