Tori Amos rereads Bruce Springsteen
After having reread Depeche Mode, Neil Young and Beatles Tori Amos also reinterprets Bruce Springsteen. The singer-songwriter has released a cover of “Growin’ up” – recorded by the Boss on his ’73 debut album “Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ” – which will be part of an expanded version “Strange Little Girls”, the covers album originally released in 2001. It will be reissued by Rhino on February 20, 2026 on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.
In the original version, the album included twelve songs written and performed by male artists, which Amos reinterpreted from a female perspective, building a visual character in photography for each of the covers. Tracks include “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode, “I’m Not in Love” by 10cc, “Rattlesnakes” by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, “Heart of Gold” by Neil Young and “Happiness Is a Warm Gun” by The Beatles. The new 2026 edition of “After All” by David Bowie and “Only Women Bleed” by Alice Cooper – at the time released as B-sides – as well as two unreleased covers, “Growin’ Up” by Bruce Springsteen and “Hoover Factory” by Elvis Costello.
Shortly after the release of the reissue, Tori Amoso will release her 18th album of unreleased songs: “In times of dragons” is scheduled for April 10th and will be followed by a tour that will touch Italy, next May 5th at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan. On stage together with Tori Amos they will play Jon Evans (MD and bass) e Ash Soan (drums), in addition to the three backing singers Liv Gibson, Deni Hlavlinka And Hadley Kennary.
Of the new album the American musician said: “’In Times of Dragons’ is a metaphorical story about the struggle between Democracy and Tyranny, a reflection of the current and terrible destruction – anything but random – of democracy, perpetrated in real time by those ‘demonic reptilian supporters of dictatorship’ in their attempt to usurp America.”
