The twenty-eighth edition of the Ciampi Prize ends
Many guests are on the bill for the final evening of the Ciampi Prize: Iosonouncane, Gianni Maroccolo and Hugo Race, Teho Teardo, Andrea Laszlo De Simone, Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti, Gatti Mezzi are just some of the artists called to perform or receive the awards of this edition.
The final evening will be held on December 13th at the Goldoni Theater in Livorno (starting at 8.30 pm) which will see on stage the duo formed by the Australian Hugo Race (with Nick Cave in the first Bad Seeds) and Gianni Maroccolo with their album “The Vigil”, Jacopo Incani/ Iosonouncane, Andrea Laszlo De Simone, to whom the Special Ciampi Award will be awarded (Andrea Laszlo De Simone will not perform on the Goldoni stage, but he has nevertheless confirmed his desire to participate in the final, accepting the prize in person).
There will also be Teho Teardo (awarded last year together with Blixa Bargeld) who will present his recent album “Teho Teardo Plays Twin Peaks And Other Infinitives” with a concert in the dark.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will go to the Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti: one of the founders of the Pordenone band, Davide Toffolo, was awarded the Ciampi Comics Award (edited by Guido Siliotto).
The Ciampi Prize also finds i Half Catswho came together this year to celebrate twenty years of their career, winners in 2007. Another return is that of Alessia Arena and Chiara Riondino, who received the Special Jury Prize in 2022 and who this year will perform the song “Alla mia princess” with a poetic text written by Piero Ciampi in 1979.
Winner of the 2025 National Competition is Zoe, artist twenty-three year old who is also the winner of the prize that this year is assigned by Arci. Instead, the award for the best cover of a song by Piero Ciampi goes to the Jambona Collective.
At the end of the evening, the Ciampi Prize Band will take the stage, a new ensemble that will see on stage artists linked to the Prize, namely Jennà Romano, Lucia Rango, Rossella Seno, Nathalia Sales, Lorenzo Lepore, Sara Jane Ghiotti, Eugenio Sournia and Giorgio Mannucci.
Another moment that characterizes the day of December 13th will be, as usual, the National Conference, hosted in the Mascagni Room of the Goldoni Theater in Livorno starting from 3:00 pm. We are not all heroes – Piero Ciampi on the radio is a cycle of ten episodes premiered by the creators and narrators Sara Jane Ghiotti (Special Ciampi Award 2023) and Sergio Albertoni (RSI) for the “Biscrome” format that the Swiss Radio and Television and Rete Due dedicate to Piero Ciampi.
Pivio and Aldo De Scalzi, authors of important film soundtracks (with two David di Donatello credits to their credit) will present the documentary dedicated to them, “Musicants with the Pianola”, directed by Matteo Malatesta. John Vignola, music critic and radio voice of Rai Radio 1, spoke with them. “Riccardo Mannerini, Genoa and the Foce, many other things” is the story of a brilliant poet with a difficult character who was a friend and artistic companion of Fabrizio De André. The authors of the volume will talk about it, Ugo Mannerini, son of Riccardo, and Laura Monferdini of viadelcampo29rosso in Genoa. Lorenzo Lepore (Ciampi Award 2023), will explain how the music and life of Piero Ciampi can become a subject of study as well as passion
In addition to the final evening on 13 December, Livorno will be home to various events linked to the Award.
Today 10 December, at the 70MQ space, there will be the “Fifteen songs by Piero Ciampi” event with the presentation of fifteen fanzines illustrated by Giga, inspired by as many songs by Piero Ciampi. The event will be accompanied by the musical performance of Giorgio Mannucci.
On 11 December (9pm) the Nuovo Teatro delle Comedie will host “With Valerio Corzani in search of the voices and vertigo of Demetrio Stratos”. Corzani, musician and presenter of Rai Radio 3, has developed a narrative, accompanied by period footage, of the life and art of Area’s voice.
The Ciampi City of Livorno Award is organized by the Ciampi and Arci Award Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Livorno, the Tuscany Region, the Livorno Foundation, the Livorno Theater Foundation.
