The mystery of the neoprimitives

The mystery of the neoprimitives

Debuting with a 21 -minute “single”, which is actually a jam of five songs, which starts citing “Herain” of the Velvet Underground and a certain point leads to Jonathan Richman’s “Roadrunner” of the Modern Lovers. Welcome to the world of neoprimitives, Roman band-colorative: they are seven, “but only six go up on stage”, and “when they ask him what music they do, they love to answer: Krautrocksampler”, recite the few lines of biography that exist on them, citing another worship name of decades ago, Julian Cope.
In an era in which we know everything (too much?) Of the artists, in which we practically see them even when they go to the bathroom, the neoprimitives play on the mystery, on letting music speak: “Orgy Mystery” is the title of their debut album, published by 42 Records, the label of I Dogs, Colapesce and Dimartino, Cosmo, to be clear.
In order not to deny, the album opens with “On the silver globe”, the 21 -minute suite, and closes with “Natulrich”, a ambient piece of about ten minutes. In the middle, “artificial” – the one that looks more like a song, between the Timoria prog and the primal screen, in which artificial intelligences are divinities – and “the black teapot”, a folk populated by gnomes that prepare poisoned teas.
“The surprising debut album of the neoprimitives”, one could say by paraphrasing the dogs, but it would be a literal definition and without irony: in a period in which a lot comes out, too much music, the neoprimitives seem to come from nothing with a totally different proposal: the band has existed for a year and has made itself known only with a residency at the thirty ants of Rome. They play with the mystery, but do not give up a great attention to detail and the image: the cover seems that of a uranium yellow or a ski-fi film of the 70s, their photos seem those of a band of that period. But above all it is their music that convinces: “Orgy Mystery” is a great record in which to get lost.

We made it tell you songs for song directly from the band: here is the track by track of “Orgy Mystery”

On the silver globe

The suite was born as a sounding of the film by Andrej żwski “on the silver globe” and is divided into 5 movements: the opening, “2067” inspired by the airy psychedelia of the Velvet underground, but with the voices borrowed from the Italian Beat Generation.

With a crescendo Noise we catapults in the second part, “Radio On”, a tribute to the Modern Lovers who turns into a collective ride with a Kraut flavor given by the motor Beat who supports us. After the landing we go into new territories, at the beginning dark and frightening that thin out on “Ralph und Florian”, which implies in a crescendo of guitar and that drags the suite towards its “scolopendra” ending, a jam with an exotic and chaotic pace.

Artificial

It is a piece inspired by the folk psychedelia and the Madchester sounds of Primal Scream and Stone Roses, in which we tried to get our desire to make dance.
In the text we turn to artificial intelligence as de were God.

The black teapot

In this bifocal song we tried to evoke the fantasy scenarios and the atmospheres over the lines present in the much loved and hated English progressive, in particular the Canterbury scene.
Even more in particular we wanted to pay homage to the gongs.

Natulrich

The freer and most experimental piece of the disc, in which we expressed more or less our maximalist essence, mixed in an exotic and esoteric jam.
