The footballer Sergio Camello and Acción por la Música collaborate in Vallecas

The Rayo Vallecano forward and Olympic gold medalist in Paris 2024 joins as ambassador of the Action for Music Foundation, in a four-year strategic collaboration to launch a symphonic rock group aimed at children and young people in the district. Through weekly presence, educators from the neighborhood itself and measurement of impact, the foundation intends to apply the same model that it has applied since 2013 in Carabanchel, Tetuán and Alcalá de Henares.

Acción por la Música was established as a foundation in 2013 and uses choirs and orchestras as spaces for social intervention in the districts with the highest vulnerability index in the Community of Madrid. The activity, new in Vallecas, will open its doors in the 2027-2028 academic year within the project MuchMoreThanMusicthe foundation’s main socio-musical intervention program. The free proposal unites the instruments of an orchestra with the repertoire and energy of rock. The group is designed to connect with teenagers who would find it difficult to approach a conventional orchestra, and to do so from a language that they recognize as their own.

Sergio Camello’s connection with Vallecas and his status as a reference for thousands of young people in the district make this alliance more than just institutional support. “In Vallecas I have learned what it means for a neighborhood to make you its own. When you are a kid you need two things: a place to go and someone who believes you can do it. Football gave me that. For a kid from here to find the same thing with a drum set or a guitar in his hands seems equally important to me. And that it doesn’t cost his family a euro. I want to meet the kids, be in the workshops and bring with me everything that can help Action for Music.”
