Sha Na Na, farewell to Scott Simon

“Screamin’” Scott Simon, a member of Sha Na Na for more than fifty years, has died at the age of 75: as revealed by the artist’s daughter, Nina Simon, through her personal social media channels, the singer was defeated by sinus cancer, which he had been battling for years.

“He was a true rock star,” Nina remembered, posting a photo of her father with her, her mother, and her daughter: “He loved having dinner in the morning and being on stage. And, more than anything, he loved his girls.”

Born in 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, Simon joined Sha Na Na in 1970 immediately after graduating from Columbia University in New York: author of several songs for the group – including “Sandy”, sung by John Travolta in “Grease”, where the group appeared as Johnny Casino and the Gamblers – the artist remained in the lineup until 2022, the year of the definitive retirement from the live scene of the band.
