Luca Carboni, the return after the illness

In a long interview with Corriere della Sera, Luca Carboni explained the suspension of his artistic activities in the last two years.

In March 2022 I was diagnosed with lung cancer. A little cough that wouldn’t go away, the decision to have an x-ray. A shock.

The singer-songwriter, obviously, was forced to postpone his projects indefinitely, including that of a new studio album of unreleased songs:

I was recording a new album, I had already defined ten pieces including the single “Il pallone” and another that was supposed to come out that summer, a song, which I care a lot about, that I had written in 1986 to propose to Vasco and that I had then decided to record personally: “Rimini d’estate”. I had planned the album and then the tour. Instead, in a few minutes, everything changed. From choosing the songs I moved on to choosing the therapies to survive. The tumor was large, difficult to operate.

Thanks to the care of the oncology staff at the Sant’Orsola hospital in Bologna and to a chemotherapy and immunotherapy program, the tumor mass was first reduced and then surgically removed:

After two years I can say that I am technically cured even if, with this type of disease, this word has a fragile meaning.

Now, fortunately, Carboni is planning his return to the scene:

My return to the world will take place in November in my Bologna with an exhibition, curated by Luca Beatrice and produced by Elastica, with the paintings, the drawings, the story board of the first video I made and the notepads on which I have the notes of each of my albums.

For the moment, from a musical point of view, there are no definite programs yet. But, at least regarding the live activity, the ideas are already very clear:

When I return to the stage, the first song I will perform will be “Primavera”. It is the song of an awaited season, which returns differently every time. I would like the first date to be in Bologna, my city.
