Rufus Wainwright arrives in Italy in July for two appointments

Defined by Sir Eltohn John as “the greatest living songwriter”, Rufus Wainwright returns to Italy, where he has been missing since 2022, with two dates for a solo show with voice and guitar.

This is the expected timetable

July 19 Piazza San Giorgio Melpignano as part of SEI Festival
July 20th
Roman Theater of Fiesole as part of Estate Fiesolana.

Praised by the New York Times for his “genuine originality”, Rufus Wainwright has distinguished himself in the musical landscape as one of the finest vocalists, songwriters and composers of his generation. Each concert offers more classic sounds, blending with traditional folk and pop scenarios.

Son of folk artists, 2023 was the year in which Wainwright embarked on a journey to rediscover the musical roots that characterized his family, giving life to the album “Folkocracy” which also includes numerous folk duets with artists from the likes of Chaka Khan, John Legend, Anohni and many more.

Born New York and raised in Montreal, Rufus Wainwright has released ten studio albums, three DVDs and three live albums to date, including “Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall”, nominated for a Grammy.

He has collaborated with artists such as Elton John, Burt Bacharach, David Byrne, Boy George, Joni Mitchell and many others. He has written two operas and numerous songs for cinema and television.

On March 6, after years of work, his musical “Opening Night” debuted at the Gielgud Theater (in the West End), based on the 1977 film of the same name by John Cassavetes (in Italy “La notte della prima”) based on from the play by Ivo van Hove.
