Queen, a collector’s edition of the first album from 1973 is released

“Queen”the English band’s debut album from 1973, has been expanded into a six-CD/1-LP Collector’s Edition containing remixed and remastered versions of songs from the original album and will be released on October 25.

For this reprint the gift has been renamed “Queen I”The new work includes a revised tracklist of the 1973 album with the song “Mad the Swine”omitted from the original version, now part of the setlist.

Sixty-three tracks including demos, recording sessions, live rehearsals and an unreleased recording of the band’s first live performance.Queen in London in August 1970. Plus a 108-page book of handwritten lyrics and memorabilia.

In the notes accompanying the release, the band’s guitarist
Brian May
writes: “This isn’t just a remaster. This is a brand new 2024 reconstruction of the entire Queen debut album, which, with the benefit of hindsight, we’ve renamed Queen I. All the performances are exactly as they originally appeared in 1973, but every instrument has been revised to produce the ambient ‘live’ sounds we originally intended to use. The result is ‘Queen’ as it would have sounded with today’s knowledge and technology: a first. ‘Queen I’ is the debut album we’ve always dreamed of bringing you.”

THE
Queen
began work on their first album in May 1972, working for four months on the songs that would be released on July 13, 1973. The box set traces the process, starting with demos the band recorded in London before the sessions began. From there, the set includes a session disc with unused masters, guide vocals, and different takes from those released on the album. A backing track disc is also included. The final two discs of

“Queen I”
contain performances of the album’s songs on the BBC in 1973 and 1974 and live tracks from the group’s concerts at the Rainbow in 1974, in San Diego in 1976 and two songs from the August 1970 concert at Imperial College.
