Peter Murphy and Boy George together in a new song
Peter Murphy of the Bauhaus And Boy Georgesinger of Culture Clubhave joined forces for a new song.
“Let the Flowers Grow“, Murphy said in a press release, was born when he was in Spain working on a new album and heard a song playing on the producer’s phone Youth. “It caught my ear with its melodic beauty and Roy Orbison-like voice singing the song,” he said.
After learning that it was a demo of Boy Georgecame up with the version that became “Let the Flowers Grow.”
Boy George added: “When I heard the mix, I was pleased in every way. I’ve always loved Pete’s voice and his writing adds a beautiful darkness. The production is very epic, like Scott Walker“.
The two first met decades ago when Boy George went to meet Howard Devoto backstage at a show Magazine that the Bauhaus were supporting.
“He struck me as a super-original, self-styled 17th-century fop,” Murphy said in the press release. “The second time I met him was when we came into the BBC to do ‘Ziggy Stardust’ on Top of the Pops, where Culture Club were also making their debut on the show. George welcomed me very warmly and I discovered who was a Bauhaus fan.”
