Tom Morello: “Shame on Iron Maiden out of the Hall of Fame”
Tom Morello is something more than a musician member of the Rock & Roll Hall of FameMorello is an active member of the organization’s nominating committee. About ten years ago the guitarist of Rage Against the Machine was involved by Jon Landauhistoric manager of Bruce Springsteen, but also a Hall of Fame executive.
In a recent conversation I had with Eddie Trunk of Sirius XM Morello explained: “My thesis was this.
If you’re a Little League player, your dream as a young baseball player is to have a career that ends up in the baseball Hall of Fame. I said, ‘A lot of young rock guitarists have no respect for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Because none of their favorite bands are there.”
Tom Morello he insisted that the Hall of Fame should be “a place where everyone who loves rock and roll aspires to be because their heroes are there. And now I’m not there.” To convince Jon Landau what did everything to include him in the organization of the Hall of Fame was seeing first-hand the great passion that animated him in supporting his theses.
In recent years the guitarist of Rage Against the Machine he has pleaded the cause of many artists, among these we can mention Kiss, MC5, RandyRhoads And Judas Priest. Even if there is a lack that Morello just can’t stomach. “I’ll bite my leg like a coyote in a trap if I can’t get Iron Maiden in. While there are many other deserving artists, Iron Maiden to me is the last most shameful oversight in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Iron Maiden are the gold standard of metal bands and they’re not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I know Bruce Dickinson said he doesn’t care. Well, I care very, very much everything I can, with my limited influence, to get Iron Maiden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
As mentioned by Morello in the interview, the Iron Maiden have openly declared themselves against their entry into the Hall of Fame, their frontman, Bruce Dickinsoneven described the organization as “a complete and total load of bullshit.” We’ll see if in the future Tom Morello with his tenacity and ability to convince, he will be able to get the British metal band into the Hall of Fame and we will see how Maiden will behave should Morello’s intent come true.
