Olly has decided: he will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The decision was in the air, since the day after the victory in Sanremo, at the press conference, the Genoese singer -songwriter had declared that he wanted to take time to reflect whether to agree to represent Italy at the show – and Rai had agreed to him one week of time. Now he has dissolved the reserve and communicated with a long post on Instagram the reasons that prompted him to refuse to represent Italy at the continental event, scheduled from 13 to 17 May in Basel, Switzerland. “I firmly think I need to connect with everything that is happening to me, before looking even further on, to continue with my beloved live appropriate that I always speak with infinite pride,” wrote the singer -songwriter, who already had The departure of his tour in clubs for May 4 by Venaria Reale, in the province of Turin is scheduled.

Italy, as known, is part of the big 5 – the five founding countries of Ebu – and as such accesses directly to the final: however courses – Rai says – will perform out of competition in the first semifinal of 13 May.

This is the complete post of Olly.

For days I have been asking myself and asking everyone’s opinions, the answer is always the same: “In the end you have to do what you feel”, because everyone knows how much I count for me to be myself, always.
Here I don’t think you would be sad if I move concerts for Eurovision, but I firmly believe that I need to connect with everything that is happening to me, before looking even further, to continue with my beloved live apprentice of which I always speak with infinite pride.

I therefore decided to give up the opportunity to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the awareness that it is one of those things that perhaps happen to you only once in life.
I thank those who voted for me and gave me the opportunity to have this privilege: I hope to see you soon at my concert to reciprocate all the love I am receiving in these days.

For me this decision is my way of listening to myself and perhaps also my twisted way of telling you thanks.
Someone will say that I am giving up a dream, here I think I have only chosen to live it with my times.

I make a huge good luck to anyone who will take my place: music in Italy is full of formidable artists and the cast of this year is the most sincere test.
Always believe it!
Something is changing and it is for everyone.

I hug you and see you on tour,
Federico
