Nomadic: “A Show Against Fear”
“Travelers travel, the losers most suited to change travel. Dust travels, the wind travels, the spring water travels. Travelers travel, the losers most suited to change travel, His Holiness travels”. Starting from the evocative words of “In viaggio”, one of the most beautiful songs written by CSI, you can delve into “Nomadic – song for biodiversity”which brings with it many aspects and holds multiple souls. First of all, “Nomadic” is the new show by Telmo Pievani and Gianni Maroccolowhich had a preview in April in Rome after a month of rehearsals, and which is now taking shape and life in a real tour. “The performance, which Telmo had in mind for years and on which he decided to involve me also in light of our projects with the Deproducers, It has gained consensus, arousing enthusiasm, emotions and interest in the public, and this has generated the request for a tour”, Moroccolo reveals. Immortalized by Rai, it was broadcast on Rai Scuola and a fragment was also shown by Alberto Angela in his program Noos.
“Nomadic” explores human and animal migration routes with empathy and depthplacing us in front of the reality that all the peoples of the Earth have a sort of common root, inviting us to overcome the mental and physical barriers that we have erected. With the musical direction of Maroccolo himself and the lyrics and narrative voice of Pievani, it avails itself of the participation of artists such as Angela Baraldi, Andrea Chimenti, Antonio Aiazzi, Simone Beneventi and Simone Filippi. Direction and light design are by Mariano De Tassis with Vladimir Jagodic sound engineer. To complete, space for the video illustrations by Marco Cazzato and the animated videos by Michele Bernardi. “There are many arts and creative languages that meet in this project and none prevails over the other – explains Maroccolo – it is not just a show on biodiversity from a scientific point of view, there is more. There is a poetic narrative that has to do with the history of human beings and that of animals. It is not a scientific conference, it is not an educational happening, nor even a concert as we know it: it is the attempt, or better yet the challenge, to take a journey through a unique artistic language that feeds on many different aspects”.
Through the songs of CSI, Philip Glass, Litfiba, Claudio Rocchi, Marlene Kuntz, of Maroccolo himself, PGR & Franco Battiatowithout forgetting some moments of pure sound, this show represents an original and immersive experience that leaves room for reflection and discovery, a bridge between art and science that confirms how these two spheres can unite to communicate complex topics in an accessible and engaging way. The tour started on September 13th from Assisi (Teatro Lyric, Umbria Green Festival) to continue towards Florence (Teatro Puccini) on September 23, then passing through Milan (Teatro dell’Arte, Triennale) on September 29. Subsequently, the tour will stop in Padua (Teatro Verdi) on October 25, to conclude in Trento (Auditorium Santa Chiara, Centro Santa Chiara in collaboration with Bitm) on November 15. The dates are being updated.
It doesn’t end here: “Nomadic” is also an album. Produced by Ala Bianca and available from September 13th. “The meaning of this project in its entirety? It is a sort of prayer to abandon fear – says Maroccolo – the encounter between peoples, in general with what is unknown, is an opportunity, not an obstacle. There is a paradoxical part of the show in which Telmo says that if borders were abolished, the planet’s GDP would skyrocket. It is obvious that this is pure utopia, but ‘Nomatic’ carries with it the message that, to grow, it is necessary to know and deal with what is unknown”. This new stage in Maroccolo’s journey is closely linked to his choices. “For years I have been clear about what I want to do and what is no longer for me. – he concludes – today most of the music is entertainment, I don’t say it in a negative sense, it’s a consideration. I look for a meaning in what I do, I want to communicate even beyond the music itself, and I am always aware that a musician also has responsibilities. In my and our small way, with this show, we want to bring the public something that can surprise and excite even more…”.
