Max Oleartchikbassist and founding member with Adrianne Lenker (voice and guitar)James Krivchenya (drums) and Buck Meek (guitar) of the Big Thiefhas decided to leave the band.
Here’s the announcement on Instagram written by the remaining members of Big Thief
After so many wonderful years together, Max is no longer in Big Thief. The love we have for each other is endless, and we are grateful for everything we have shared over the years and since the beginning of our journey. We would not be who we are without Max. This separation marks the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one for the band. This change was made for personal reasons and with mutual respect. It is a big change for the four of us and we ask for your trust, respect and attention as we begin the next chapter of our lives.
The resigned bassist met the three musicians when they were teenagers during a summer program at Berklee College Music. It was on the streets of Brooklyn that they met and formed Big Thief.
In 2016 they published “Masterpiece”, their first studio album. In their history so far Big Thief have released five albums, the most recent “Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You” came out in 2022 (Read the review here).
