Mark Knopfler: streaming the 4 songs of the new EP “The boy”
After the release exclusively on vinyl for Record Store Day 2024 last April 20th, Mark Knopfler has made available from today, May 3, also in streaming the new EP “The boy“.
The disc, released a few days after the last studio album of the former Dire Straits frontman “One deep river” (here our interview and here the review), it was produced by Knopfler together with Guy Fletcher And includes four new songs: “Mr Solomons Said”, “The Boy”, “All Comers” and “Bad Day for a Knife Thrower”. The songs, recorded during the sessions of “One deep river”, tell themes of fairs, funfairs and their boxing booths, i.e. the improvised rings common in Great Britain in the 1950s and early 1960s. These themes come from a personal interest of Mark Knopfler, who, as reported in a press release issued in view of Record Store Day, as a boy was fascinated by the gigantic funfair that was held every year on Newcastle Town Moor.
