Levante: the energy and beauty of being together

Levante: the energy and beauty of being together

There are various moments, in Genoa, at the Politeama Genovese, in one of the last dates of his theater tour, which photograph the artistic and human moment he is experiencing Levantwhich has returned to shine, after a difficult period also told in “Levante Ventitré”, in the only place, “his home”, where he could definitively reopen his wings without weights on him: the stage. One of these is, without a doubt, when he decides to go down into the heart of the audience and sing in acoustic, accompanied by a guitar, without a microphone, but with the sole strength of her voice with different colors, a piece like “Abbi cura di te”, taken from his second album of 2015: “Wherever you go, take care of yourself. Take care of your troubles. I will remember you among my desires and the dreams that the night brings and the day never cancels…”, sings the Sicilian singer-songwriter creating an emotional intensity so strong that it brought several people to tears.

And they come to her too, in the wake of that moment of purity bright eyes. At the end of the song everyone jumps up, abandons the red chairs, and pays tribute to them a standing ovationwho cares if the concert started not long ago, this is because you have the clear sensation of having experienced something precious and to have experienced it together. It is in that “togetherness” that, today more than ever, Levante navigates magnetic, free, technically impeccable, also thanks to the excellent band that accompanies her: he seeks the gazes of the public, he stretches out with his body, if he could he would hug everyone, he goes down among the fans other times, all creating, physically and mentally, a bridge between her and those who listen to herjust like the greats of music do by riding a ritual, the first name that comes to mind is Nick Cave. Her bond with those who follow her has always been profound, but at the halfway point of ten years of his careerwith the ever-increasing awareness that the real glue is the songs capable of stayingprecisely in a historical period in which music is liquid and fleeting, that union brings with it something mystical.

It is no coincidence, perhaps, that many artists like to define songs as “great mysteries”. The one between Levante and his audience is essentially an exchange of gifts. Then there is another moment that tells a lot about Levante today: when he decides to sing “You're not OK”the opening track from his debut album “Manual destruction”, what changed her life, making her leave the Turin bar where she worked to pursue her dreams and who has turned ten years old. It's a song where pain is stared in the face. “It was a record that I wrote in solitude, where there is a lot of 'I', and that I decided to open to many friends“, explains. There she was, again, sharing. On May 23rd “Manuale destruction – 10 years later” will be released with many feats to broaden the boundaries of that project.

A phrase recently pronounced by Gino Paoli comes to mind, during the presentation of his book “What I will do when I grow up – my first 90 years” at the Turin Book Fair: “The wonder of singing lies in the possibility of sharing one's solitude with other solitudes with the result that we can all feel less alone”. The last part of the live show with “Invincible”, “Andrà tutto bene”, “Non me ne ne negli niente”, “Vertigine”, “Alfonso”, “Lo Strictly Necessary”, “Tikibombom”, “Vivo” and the beautiful “ I miss you”, it's like it's a greatest hits. “I miss you” sings the absence. And everyone projects in some way an image between the folds of those words. There is a truth, even a painful one, to share. Levante and Claudia have always coincided. There is no trick, there is no deception. And his audience is always there for it.
