Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars Surprise Together in “Die with a Smile”

Almost surprisingly, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars have released the single “Die with a smile“. The song, accompanied by a video clip, sees the two artists join forces for the first time.

Although the imagery of the videoclip catapults us into a 1970s Nashville country, “Die with a smile” itself is a mid-tempo soul power ballad which respects the style of Mars’ Silk Sonic project with Anderson .Paak. Probably the sounds and the atmosphere are far from what one could have expected after the announcement that arrived yesterday evening, a few hours before the publication. However, the single by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, as a love song for the end of the world, surprises and strikescapable of becoming one of those songs from listen on loop.

“If the world was ending / I’d wanna be next to you,” declares the 38-year-old singer-songwriter and producer at the beginning of his first chorus, between extreme statements, but of a profound sweetnesswinking at the love songs of the last century. To give even more power to “Die with a smile”, between delicately strummed guitars, up to the overwhelming climax of the final chorus, is the voice of the popstarwhich joins that of the colleague with personality, without being intrusive.

The two stars collaborated on the single’s writing along with James Fauntleroy, Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II and Andrew Watt, with the latter two also involved in the production. As revealed by him in an interview a few months agoWatt – already alongside Gaga during her collaboration with the Rolling Stones on 2023’s “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” and other rock stars, from the Stones themselves for “Hackney Diamonds” to Ozzy Osbourne and Pearl Jam – has also been busy as a producer on Miss Germanotta’s next recording project.

As fans anxiously await when they will be able to hear Lady Gaga’s already confirmed seventh studio album, fresh from her performance at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, the “Bad Romance” singer has clarified that “Die with a smile” is a standalone single. In addition to sharing the announcement of the single on Instagram with a reference to the wait for her new album (“While you wait for ‘LG7′”, wrote the artist, who chose this name to refer to her next album that does not yet have a title or a release date), Gaga explained in a press release:

“Bruno and I have a great mutual respect, and we started talking about collaborating. I was finishing my new album in Malibu one night after a long day, and he asked me to come to his studio to listen to something he was working on. It was around midnight when I got there and I was amazed when I heard what he had started to do. We stayed up all night and finished writing and recording the song. Bruno’s talent is inexplicable. His musicianship and vision are next level. There’s no one like him.”

Bruno Mars echoed her sentiments, saying, “Working with Gaga has been an honor. She’s an icon and she makes this song magical. I’m so excited for everyone to hear it.”
