Kula Shaker will reinterpret their classic “K” in “K-Reinkarnate”
The British band Kula Shaker shares “Govinda”, preview of what will be ”K-Reinkarnate” and they announce a tour of the United Kingdom and Europe for February and March 2027.
Thirty years after their debut album, “K”reached number one, Kula Shaker return to the album that he released to them with “K-Reinkarnate”: a complete new performance of the album, recorded live and entirely in analogue by the original line-up due out February 5, 2027 via Strange FOLK Records. Now they share “Govinda” and announce a tour of the United Kingdom and Europe for February and March 2027.
“K-Reinkarnate” was recorded live on two-inch tape in Middle Farm Studios and mixed by Peter Miles and Ash Howesthe production team behind “Wormslayer” (25). This is neither a replica nor a conventional anniversary reissue: Crispian Mills, Alonza Bevan, Paul Winter-Heart and Jay Darlington boarded “K” as a living work, performing the album in its original order and capturing how its songs have evolved over three decades live.
The sessions also recovered “Shower Your Love”, “Hush” and “Drop in the Sea”, recorded during the original sessions of “K” but they did not become part of the final album, and are now incorporated into the order of the songs. “She’s so free” stands out especially, an unfinished recording recovered from a two-inch master tape, with piano, acoustic guitar and lead vocals, lost in 1996 and now completed in 2026.
About “Govinda,” their 1996 single sung entirely in Sanskrit and based on kirtan, a yoga devotional singing tradition, Crispian Mills explains that it was the first song they played together, sneaking onto the stage Krishna of Glastonbury in 1993, and after becoming friends with Himangsu Goswamithey gained a deeper understanding of the song.
“K”originally published in 1996, brought British psychedelia, Indian musical influences, and Sanskrit mantra to the mainstream. Boosted by singles such as “Tattva”, “Hey Dude” and “Govinda”, it went straight to number one in the UK. Kula Shaker will begin their tour on February 26, 2027 in Luxembourg and will close it on March 20 at the troxy from London.
