John Lydon to The Masked Singer: “I’m a jester by nature”

The yak is a Tibetan bovine… but also the mask under which it was hidden John Lydononce again a competitor of the “Masked Singer”. As in 2021, the frontman of Sex Pistols participated in the singing reality show that sees celebrities compete against each other, wearing disguises used to hide their identities from a jury and the studio audience; they are then invited to vote for their favorite contestant. The celebrity with the fewest votes must reveal their true identity.

After running a version of “Physical” by Olivia Newton-JohnLydon was forced to take off his mask: “Rather than go on stage and sing at the top of my lungs and have everyone guessing who I am straight away, I thought: show the other side of me. A real entertainment star. I am the court jester by nature. That’s just the way things are.” When Lydon was asked if he was sorry to leave the program, Johnny Rotten’s response was: “Of course not. I think it’s been a privilege for you to have me here.”

Recently, Lydon has been back in the news following his clashes with his former bandmates. The relationship between them has become more distant in recent years, with the singer who he openly criticized their decision to bring the Sex Pistols back on tour and enlist former Gallows frontman Frank Carter in his place.
