Goodbye to Perry Bamonte of The Cure

The Cure announced with a statement on the band’s official website the passing of Perry Bamonte, “a great friend and bandmate”, “after a short illness, at home, during the Christmas period”. The band called the musician “quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and immensely creative, a warm heart and a vital part of the Cure story. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his entire family. He will be greatly missed.”

Bamonte was born in London on 3 September 1960: he debuted as a member of the band’s entourage – his brother Daryl had been appointed tour manager. He joined the band as a musician in 1990, after the departure of Roger O’Donnell: Bamonte was a multi-instrumentalist and mainly played guitar and keyboards, both live and in the studio, until he left the group in 2005. The Cure called him back in 2019 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony and in 2022 he officially returned to the band, for the “Shows of a Lost World” tour, including the concert at the Troxy in London in November 2024, recently also released as a film. Bamonte was supposed to participate in the Cure’s next tour scheduled for 2026 – the band will also play next summer in Italy at Firenze Rocks.
