“Gloria” by Umberto Tozzi will become a musical
“Gloria”, the classic by Umberto Tozzi, will become a musical, “Gloria – The Musical”, will debut in October 2026 and was presented today (at the Gloria cinema in Milan). Tozzi will also take care of the musical direction. It will be directed by
Andrea Maia and Toni Fornari, authors together with Vincenzo Sinopoli. The production is by GoldenStar, with the partnership of Momy Records, Sugar Music Publishing, Concerto srl and Enpi Entertainment
“I am happy to announce the start of a special project, built around the songs that have accompanied my whole life”, said Tozzi. “I have always believed that ‘Gloria’, like many of my other songs, could find its natural dimension in a musical, and today, just as I approach the last concert, a new path opens up for me: an unprecedented experience that will give new life to my music. I would also like to share the credit with all the musicians with whom I have collaborated and worked since I was a young musician myself, up to my co-author and producer Giancarlo Bigazzi and my publisher Franco Daldello, who is the first person who believed in me. And finally, credit also goes to Gianluca Tozzi, who has been able to manage my entire repertoire with great success up to now.”
The show will tell the story of a young singer named Gloria, struggling with loves, falls and rebirths, to the tune of Tozzi’s songs. Auditions for the main role are open until January 7, 2026 on the website www.gloriailmusical.it. We are looking for a performer between 20 and 35 years old, with excellent vocal and acting skills.
The song, published in 1979 and which also became a worldwide success in Laura Branigan’s English version, has been used in films and series such as “Flashdance”, “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “Glee” and “La Casa de Papel”. “It has cheered the heart and made generations dance around the world both in the Italian version by Umberto and in the English version by Laura Branigan and is frequently chosen by internationally renowned directors to highlight crucial emotional moments in the narration of their films, frequently requested in international advertising campaigns. It has legitimately entered the Olympus of the great world repertoire among the most well-known and loved Italian songs. Today, becoming the muse of a musical, the song is transformed into a dialogue and musical theater show, regenerating itself, continuing to live in the heart of the new generations”, commented Caterina Caselli Sugar.
The musical will be produced and directed by Andrea Maia and Toni Fornari. «I didn’t think I would return to producing musicals, but the idea of telling “Gloria” gave me back my enthusiasm – explained Maia – It was magical meeting Umberto and sharing this dream with him».
