Fabrizio De André, his songs in a jazz key
On February 4th, in Milan at BLUE NOTE (Via Pietro Borsieri, 37), with a double show at 8.30pm and 10.30pm, “Viva De André” will be staged, the show that has been touring Fabrizio De André’s songs rearranged in a jazz style for over seven years.
The show is created and directed by LUIGI VIVA, author of the two books on Fabrizio De André “Not for a god but not even for fun – Life of Fabrizio De André” And “Carpenter of words – the songs and music of Fabrizio De André” (both published by Feltrinelli), with arrangements by Luigi Masciari, guitarist and composer. The show is a concert-story that combines live jazz music, narration, images and audio of unpublished interviews.
The evening, exclusively for the Blue Note, will see the extraordinary participation of the composer, arranger, singer and multi-instrumentalist Giulio Carmassi (ex Pat Metheny Unity Group), who for the occasion will perform with the band together with Luigi Viva and Lugi Masciari.
In the repertoire, classics such as “Piero’s War”, “Marinella’s Song”, “The Fisherman”, “Crêuza de mä “Waltz For A Love”, “Mégu Megún”, “Song of Lost Love” And “The Bomber”. The musical direction and arrangements, signed by Luigi Masciari, reinterpret the‘De André’s work through a contemporary jazz language, respecting its melodic writing‘expressive identity.
After the sold out events of recent years in the main Italian jazz theaters and festivals (Umbria Jazz Winter, Blue Note Milano, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, Südtirol Jazz Festival, Ascona Jazz, and many others), and following the success achieved this summer in Cerveteri (Rome), in Castelbuono (Palermo) and in Torre del Greco (Naples), on 4 February, “VIVA DE ANDRÉ” will make a stop in the historic jazz club Milanese.
The show is created with the collaboration of the Fabrizio De André Onlus Foundation, of which Luigi Viva is a founding member.
On stage some of the most authoritative interpreters of Italian jazz: Giulio Carmassi, ex Pat Metheny Unity Group; Francesco Bearzatti, awarded the title of Best European Musician in 2011 by the prestigious Académie du Jazz Française; Pietro Iodice, who boasts collaborations with Kenny Wheeler, Bob Mintzer, John Patitucci and Paul McCandless; Alessandro Gwis, already alongside Aires Tango, Ralph Towner, Samuele Bersani and Cuong Vu; Francesco Poeti, collaborator of Pietro Tonolo, Stefano, Stefano Di Battista, Nicola Stilo, Maurizio Giammarco.
