Duran Duran return with new single “Free to Love”

Duran Duran released new single “Free to Love”created together with Nile Rodgers, the band’s historic collaborator. The song marks their first unreleased song of 2026 and continues a collaboration that over the years has spanned remixes, productions and studio appearances. “Free to Love” combines disco and funk elements with the group’s new wave tradition, building a bright and strongly rhythmic sound. In the chorus, Simon Le Bon sings: “Free to love / Be free to win or lose / Free to love / Do what you want to do / Free to love / Be free to see it through”.

The song was co-written by Nile Rodgers, who helped define the track’s groove structure. The official video, directed by Jonas Åkerlund, recalls the aesthetics of retro music television broadcasts, with band performances, dancefloor lights and group choreography. “’Free to Love’ is disco for the 2020s,” explained Simon Le Bon. “It’s about freedom, about learning to love the modern world instead of hating it. It’s something we need now”. Nick Rhodes added: “Every time we play with Nile there is an incredible energy. We share the idea that music is a positive force.” Rodgers, for his part, underlined the artistic bond with the band: “Inside the studio we are free to create. Whatever happens outside, only music exists in there.” The collaboration between Duran Duran and Nile Rodgers has deep roots: from the remix of “The Reflex” in 1984 to the production of subsequent songs and albums, the creative relationship between the two continues to this day. The band will be busy in the coming months between festivals, a residency in Las Vegas and a European tour.
