The Boards of Canada are back

Boards of Canada announce new album “Hell”out on May 29, 2026 on Warp. Thirteen years after the last publication, “Hell” marks the return of the electronic duo formed by Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin, aka Boards of Canada. The disc contains 18 new unreleased songs. They have been active since the 90s and have built a very recognizable sound, between ambient, downtempo and analog nostalgia. Their music is often described as “distorted memory”, made of warm synths, degraded tapes and rarefied atmospheres.

Their most famous album is probably “Music Has the Right to Children” from 1998, considered a classic of the genre. They are also known for their strong confidentiality: very rare interviews and almost no public exposure. Many of their works revolve around themes such as childhood, memory, technology and nature. They influenced a lot of later electronic music, from IDM to modern ambient. After long recording silences, each of their returns becomes an event in the scene. In general they are considered one of the most important and mysterious formations of contemporary electronics.
