Charli XCX and some guitars, here is her “Rock music”
After months of declarations and previews on the artistic direction undertaken for his next project after the album “Brat” (read the review here) released in 2024, Charli XCX released today – May 8th – the new single “Rock musicAnd yes, there are guitars.
Accompanied by a black and white video clip directed by Aidan Zamiri, already behind the clip of the remix of “Guess” with Billie Eilish, the song It comes after weeks in which the British pop star hinted that she wanted to change her perspective compared to the dance universe of the previous album.
“Rock music” still remains firmly in place anchored to the pop aesthetic constructed by the British musician in recent years, although this time the guitars have a much more central and aggressive role. In the piece, produced together with historical collaborators AG Cook and Finn Keane, formerly known as Easyfun, the singer alternates irony, chaos and references to his creative circle while in the video he walks through the streets of the city among cigarettes and nocturnal atmospheres.
Last month, in an interview for “British Vogue”, Charli XCX confirmed that the sequel to “Brat” would arrive soon and spoke openly about her new artistic phase. “I think the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music”, declared the pop star, also explaining that the new material would contain more guitars and fewer voices treated with autotune.
“Rock music” comes after Charli XCX’s album for the movie “Wuthering Heights” (“Wuthering Heights”) and the soundtrack of “Mother Mary”, the film arriving in Italian cinemas on May 14th, to which the singer contributed together with Jack Antonoff and FKA twigs.
