Bob Dylan Creates TikTok Accounts Before Shutdown in America

Times change and a few days before the expected closure in the United States, Bob Dylan officially joins TikTok.

“Explore the world of Bob Dylan, now on TikTok. #bobdylan,” reads the caption of the first and (for now) only post on his new account.

Meanwhile, the video features a series of clips from various eras of Dylan soundtracked by “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and “Hurricane.” Of course, the iconic singer-songwriter has less than a week to get his fill of dancing on TikTok before the platform officially becomes obsolete in the United States.

TikTok users are aware of this fact, as comments on the video include “A little too late, bro,” “Bob style, showed up at the last minute” (laughing face with tears) and “BOB DON’T LET THEM DELETE TIKTOK (series of little hearts follows).”

The new membership joins Dylan’s streak of ill-timed social media presences. Last year, as Elon Musk took over Twitter, Dylan became an avid tweeter (at least on the Bob Dylan scale). While his account was previously reserved for announcements and promotion, he began using the platform to share birthday wishes, give his opinion on restaurants and respond to fans. His X membership dates back to March 2009 and currently has 484,876 followers.

Passed last year, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act sought to force TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to divest from the company in the name of national security. ByteDance did not do so and therefore the closure of the Chinese social network should take effect on Sunday 19 January. Although TikTok recently filed its case with the Supreme Court, hoping to delay or overturn the ban, the Court is expected to uphold the law. However, Trump himself also asked for a delay in the closure decision.

Mr Zimmerman is also on Facebook where he has 7 million followers, while on Instagram (with 668 posts) he “stops” at one million “followers”.
