Aerosmith: a possible return to the stage?
Next month, Billboard reports, the members of Aerosmith will reunite for a performance to mark the sixth Jam for Janie Grammy Awards Viewing Party annual of Steven Tyler.
The high-profile charity event will be held on February 2 at the Hollywood Palladium and will be hosted by comedian Tiffany Haddish.
The party will feature performances by several rock stars, including Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Linda Perry, Matt Sorum and Nuno Bettencourt.
At the moment the details of the alleged Aerosmith reunion are unclear, but Billboard lists Perry, Hamilton and Tyler, without mentioning guitarist Brad Whitford or drummer Joey Kramer. The latter had not performed full-time with Aerosmith since 2019, with John Douglas filling in for him during the band’s Las Vegas residency and brief farewell tour.
Tyler launched Janie’s Fund — named after Aerosmith’s hit song “Janie’s Got a Gun” — in 2015 to provide assistance to girls and young women who have suffered abuse. In addition to its primary goal, this year’s Jam for Janie will benefit the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and the Widows, Orphans, and Disabled Firefighter’s Fund following to the fires that hit Southern California.
Aerosmith announced their retirement from touring last summer, citing Tyler’s insurmountable vocal injury, which initially forced them to postpone their Peace Out farewell tour after just three dates in 2023. The tour was ultimately canceled before that the band could revive it.
Hamilton recently spoke out about Tyler’s recovery, saying he’s “going very, very well,” albeit “at his own pace.”
“Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big ‘if,’ and the last thing I want to do is try to push Steven in that direction,” added Hamilton, who has been busy with his new band, the Close Enemies. “If we do anything in the future, he will decide.”
