Reunion in sight for REM (but only for an interview)

A new supergroup featuring members of REM, Black Crowes and more

Members of REM, Black Crowes and Screaming Trees have formed a new supergroup together with singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur. The band, which chose the name Silverlites, has already released a first single from their debut album.

The lineup is composed, in addition to Arthur as lead vocalist, by Peter Buck of REM on acoustic guitars, Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes on acoustic guitars and Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees on drums, double bass, vibraphone and backing vocals.

The first eponymous album by the “Silverlites” is expected for next November 15th and is preceded by the song “Don’t go, don’t stay”, which introduces the group’s sound by taking up a guitar track recorded by Martin in a room hotel in Nashville in 2019.

“We hope you enjoy the songs, as we spent the pandemic years doing various recording and mixing sessions,” wrote Barrett Martin on Instagram: “And we adopted a form of classic songwriting, which is often forgotten nowadays. That is, acoustic guitars (with a little electric guitar), with superb lead vocals, catchy backing vocals and a soulful backbeat in the rhythm section. It’s old school songwriting, just like us.”
