There’s a Russian band calling themselves Angine de Poitrine

The advantage of being a masked band that has built its success (also) on anonymity is that it creates hype and fascination around the project. But there is also a flip side to the coin. The downside is that it becomes much easier for someone to impersonate you. It’s a situation that Angine de Poitrine, the Canadian experimental rock duo that has become a true global viral phenomenon in 2026, are experiencing right now. As reported by Exclaim!, in Russia there is a band that passes itself off as the original Angine de Poitrine: two musicians appear on stage with the same costumes and masks as the members of the real Angine de Poitrine. An Instagram post from May 17 appears to capture the “impostors” in action, performing in a Moscow bar:

There is a detail that makes them different from the real Angine de Poitrine and that fans of the Canadian duo noticed immediately: one of the two musicians does not play a double-necked guitar, Khn de Poitrine’s characteristic instrument. The entourage of the original Angine de Poitrine denounced the episode: «There’s already a fake version of the band on tour in Russia, complete with costumes and everything – he told Exclaim! Sam Murdock, art director and graphic designer who works with the real Angine de Poitrine – and they keep tagging the band without even specifying that it’s not the real band.”

And it doesn’t end here. Several impostors are trying to profit by taking advantage of the Angine de Poitrine’s anonymity: «We live in a strange time where everyone is trying to make money at the expense of the band. At the moment, there are already about 1,500 counterfeit T-shirts online, and I have removed 700 of them from Tee Republic and Red Bubble, but they keep popping up,” added the art director of the Canadian duo.

The original Angine de Poitrine made their debut in Italy on May 31, 2026, performing in a single national date at the MART in Rovereto, on the occasion of the Poplar Utopia Festival.
