Federico Mecozzi, a tribute to Franco Battiato

Five years after the death of Franco Battiato, a tribute album by Federico Mecozzi is released: the violinist, composer and multi-instrumentalist from Romagna – historic collaborator of Ludovico Einaudi – publishes “Traiettorie impercettibili” on 29 May, a project entirely dedicated to the repertoire of the Sicilian musician, through mainly instrumental reinterpretations of some of his best-known songs.

The album includes eight songs from Battiato’s repertoire: from “L’ombra della luce” to “Gli birds”, from “I want to see you dance” to “La cura”, up to “Shock in my town” and “Invito al viaggio”. In “I want to see you dance” the original voice of Franco Battiato also appears at the end of the song. Among the guests there are Morgan, who participates in “Shock in my town”, Juri Camisasca and Thea Crudi in “Nomadi”, and Simone Cristicchi in “Invito al viaggio”. The artwork is signed by Davide Toffolo of Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti and the album is released by Imarts, a label whose CEO Francesco Cattini was Battiato’s manager.

“This work was born mainly from the profound need to express gratitude and devotion to the artist who, more than anyone else, represented and represents my highest and brightest point of reference”, said Mecozzi. “Battiato was a beacon in my growth, my great regret is never having met him on my journey, but even more so this album also manifests itself as a new opportunity to get to know him, introduce myself to him, ask for his approval. It is a very personal journey into his music: the great attachment I have towards his work pushed me to take possession of it, break it down and recompose it, in a courageous way but also with the most humble approach possible, depriving it – only apparently – of its power of words and making it an instrumental discourse which, starting from immortal themes and harmonies, is dressed in the language that most belongs to me, centered on the violin and on the various other timbres that I love to use.”
