Elton John has a new album ready
Elton John has completed a new album, also born from the difficulties linked to the vision problems that have affected him in recent months. The musician announced that he had finished the album during the Glenn Gould Prize ceremony in Toronto, explaining that the project is “very different from anything I’ve done before” and calling it “very happy”.
The new job comes after the eye infection that caused him serious vision problems in 2024. In a subsequent interview with Variety, Elton John said that the situation was devastating: he lost the sight of his right eye, while that of his left remains compromised. However, the condition also changed his creative approach. “I’ve had eye problems recently and I’ve always made records by looking at lyrics and writing to lyrics, so I’m pretty screwed at the moment,” he said. “What my eye has given me is the possibility, at 80 years old, to completely reverse my way of writing. I’m writing the melodies first and the lyrics come later. I’ve never done it.”
He added: “I just made an album that’s so different from anything I’ve done before, but it’s so happy. I’m excited about it, because it’s given me another chance to make music.”
The album will be the first solo album of unreleased songs after the retirement from major tours announced in 2023 at the end of the “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour”, and follows the collaborative project “Who Believes In Angels?” made with Brandi Carlile.
