Peter Gabriel announces new album "o/i"

With the full moon comes a new song by Peter Gabriel

With the arrival of the full moon Peter Gabriel released a new song “Till Your Mind Is Shining”the fourth from his upcoming album titled “oi”. The English musician described this song as “the closest to a pop song on this album”.

“I” (read the review here) was the last album released by Peter Gabriel in 2023. Each song was released on the occasion of each full moon cycle. “oi” follows the same procedure.

In a press release the former Genesis further stated: “The song came from a chord sequence that I liked and that seemed quite poppy and playful, so I kept working on it until I got something. Of all the songs I’ve written for “i/o” and “oi”, this one for me is probably the most poppy.”

Still talking about this song he said: “In a certain sense, it takes me back to my school days, because before Genesis we tried to be more authors than musicians: pop or soul/R&B songs. I think this song connects me to some of those roots and the type of music I was working on then and trying to master. In a certain sense, it talks about opening the mind and looking inside to understand ourselves and the world we live in a little better, with the hope of responding in a more responsible and compassionate.”

As for the songs of “I”also new songs by “oi” they will each have a “bright” mix and a “dark” mix. For “Till Yours Mind Is Shining” is the “dark” mix of Chad Blake the protagonist, while the ‘bright’ side, made by Mark “Spike” Stentwill follow later in the month, on the occasion of the new moon.

Every song by
“oi”
presents a different illustration. This month is the work of a contemporary Japanese artist named
Tatsuo Miyajima
. The 76-year-old musician explains: “A few years ago I went to Hiroshima and spoke to some of the bomb survivors, extraordinary women who have dedicated their lives to keeping alive their experience of the terrible reality and total horror of an atomic bomb. I wanted an image that conveyed a feeling of coldness, structure and information, but also of delicacy and introspection. Tatsuo calls this work ‘Warp Time With Warp Self, No. 2’ and I really like the fact that, In a way, it feels futuristic, with numbers and data, and yet you have ‘this distorted self in the background.’
