DFA covers The Waterboys in memory of JD Twitch (Optimo)

Keith McIvor – pictured right – was one of the most active members of the Scottish music community, both alongside his duo partner Jonnie Wilkes and supporting the scene. Therefore, at the time it was announced that he was suffering from brain cancer – which ended his life in September of last year at the age of fifty-seven – a crowdfunding For the expenses of his care he raised more than ninety thousand pounds in just two days. Musicians like Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand) and Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai) They donated significant amounts to help him.

Now, a year later, the DFA record label factory, with James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) at the helm, pays tribute to him on the first anniversary of his death by signing a version of the 1985 classic “The Whole Of The Moon” by The Waterboys, a song that talks about visionary minds that affect people’s lives with their efforts.

The song, which takes the sound of The Waterboys to a sort of cross between Fleetwood Mac and electronic pop, is available on Bandcamp under the name The Watergirls. This is the first and only song that will be released under this name and the community around Optimo and also James Murphy himself are involved in it. The track has been mastered by Bob Weston (Shellac) in Lisbon, Portugal.

All profits from the digital sale of the song and the subsequent limited edition twelve-inch version will go to the Beatson Cancer Charity Foundation and the Scottish Brain Tumor Research Center of Excellence.
