When Booker T Jones hit the charts
Talk about Booker Taliaferro Jones Jr. means talking about one of the greatest – and least known, at least in our area – architects of the American sound as we know it today: together with his MG’s. the multi-instrumentalist, performer and producer who turns 80 today, not only defined the standards of southern soul, becoming the musical backbone of the Staxthe legendary label that introduced the world to legends like Otis Redding and Eddie Floydbut he also shaped a sound that from the Seventies onwards would become a common staple among the most relevant genres on the US and world markets, from pop to rock, through r’n’b, urban and l ‘hip hop.
To celebrate his birthday, we propose you to listen to all the songs made with MG’s that ended up in the top 100 of the best-selling singles on the American market.
