“We want the disc to have a longer journey”

“We have tried to make songs with people who knew our movement, liked it and wanted it to be like that. So it was like they came predisposed to ‘give it to me’, you know? Give it to me, I want it. And we told them ‘Okay, but you give me yours. It was like someone who is going to buy drugs (laughs). We want both, right? You want my money and I want your drugs. They are both wanting to be given it’explains Pimp Flaco, talking about how important it has been for them to find the right people when signing each participation in the album. A project of complete creative exchange where everything is more to more. “I think it is evident that we were not looking for profiles that were doing what is most heard now, but rather that we were making their own film.”

We are left with Cupid at the 5020 Studio in Madrid to see each other again a year after “I’ll give you a summary” and review what the process of creating this work has been like. “It really has been a slow process. It has been an album made between tours. In fact, on the Latin American tour we made several songs from the album and little by little we have been moving forward between concerts, studios, each other’s lives and such,” comments Luichi. “That’s why we felt that in the middle we had to release something and ‘I make a summary’ happened as an appetizer before the dish. And yes, it has been hard and delicate work. We have discovered that perhaps it will be the only album of collaborations in our career, with all the love in the world, but it is perhaps the last (laughs). Although well, you never know. It is clear that it is more expensive than a solo album, obviously, but happy,” Toni points out, highlighting the difficulty of an album that has even led them to release it without the first song of the album seeing the light. “I think we are going to invent a new type of marketing. Release the single from the album after the album. Everything is planned. Remember that then you will see Bad Bunny releasing the single two weeks after the album.”
With “Shared Love” the universe of Cupid It expands in a big way, even breaking with a privacy of the band that they had never dared to show before. “We are working on the whole issue of artistic direction with Diego from Sabotage Propaganda and we came up with the idea of relating the theme of shared love with sharing files with people. That people could get into our computer and see what’s happening. We even considered filtering songs and everything there.”comments Toni. “I really think that everyone should do that. Like showing that silly part of yourself a little. And not just always being there looking gorgeous on the beach, which in the end we all do. But you have to get rid of the fear a little. Because in the end we are all assholes. We are smart or stupid people depending on the day. We all poop and we all take showers,” they throw between laughter.
What is true is that, after so many years of creation, some songs by “Shared Love” They are already beginning to be more part of the past than the future. “I don’t know if I had mentioned it before, but of course, I was coming out of a breakup. So I kind of feel sad on the album. I listen to it and I say ‘Holy shit, the album is sad, my poor thing. And I don’t feel that way anymore, at all. But of course, you get caught in a dark time and you vomit darkness, you know? And I can notice that. It doesn’t worry me because I know that a stage like that is going to come again and people are also going to get caught up in a stage like that.’ “Things come and go. In that sense, it may be that I don’t feel so much in that low stage anymore, you know?”explains Flaco. The good thing is that what does seem like it will last a long time is the concept that surrounds the entire project and that, in reality, fits so well with the central soul of what it is. Cupid as a band. “We want the album to have a longer journey, more than releasing it one day and that’s it. So we have prepared a choreography for the shows or something (laughs). We’ve been in salsa classes for a year. No, seriously, we want this not to just be all on one album, but we’ll see. In other words, this concept of having collaborations with other artists, maybe from other areas that are not music and so on, and continue working.”. Meanwhile, we have to enjoy a tour that is coming up and promises to give us great moments as always. “There is a tour already, after the summer, prepared.
