Verdena: 5 tracks in which Roberta’s bass is unforgettable
After over twenty years of music together, Roberta Sammarelli has left Verdena. News that deeply affected the fans of the Bergamo band, not only for the human bond between the three musicians, but for the sonic imprint that his bass has left indelibly in the history of the group. Roberta has never been a “silent” presence: her sound, between depth and tension, was a symbol of the Verdena universe. From the grunge fury of his early days to the psychedelic density of “Wow”, his bass has always oscillated between power and sensitivity, becoming a real voice in the instrumental dialogue with Alberto and Luca Ferrari. She is one of the best bass players in the history of Italian music and we want to pay homage to her by remembering five of her spectacular and very different lines.
“Don Calisto” – “Requiem” from 2007
The bass is the real protagonist: dark, obsessive, hypnotic, crazy. Roberta’s line gives structure and weight to the whole song, making it violent and visceral.
“Inside Sharon” – “Verdena” from 1999
In one of the symbolic pieces of the first album, the bass becomes dense, nervous, but also dreamlike, driving the emotional tension of the trio.
“Luna” – “The Suicide of the Samurai” from 2004
The most famous bass in Verdena’s history on one of the most beautiful tracks in their discography. Here the instrument is melodic and full of breath. Roberta accompanies Alberto’s voice with sensitivity, demonstrating how her touch is fundamental to maintaining balance and atmosphere.
“Pascolare” – “I wanted magic” of 2022
The bass pulsates, is splashed and envelops the song, derails. Roberta builds an intense line that instills fury, but which also accompanies the melodies and seems to guide the movement of the song, making it one of the most memorable pieces on the album.
“Improvement” – “WOW” from 2011
Elegant and spacious bass, set in a wider and psychedelic arrangement. His line supports and colors the piece with an almost jazzy precision.
