U2: Sphere Residency Becomes A Film Directed By The Edge
The series of concerts held by U2 at the futuristic Las Vegas venue, the Sphere, is becoming a film directed by the guitarist of the Irish band, The Edge, together with his wife Morleigh Steinberg.
The concert film is titled “V-U2: An Immersive Concert Film at Sphere Las Vegas” and, due to the format in which it was made, it will be possible to watch it only at the arena, the largest spherical construction in the world with its 112 meters high and 157 meters wide. Tickets will cost from 100 dollars.
The project was in fact filmed using the Big Sky camera system, developed by Sphere Entertainment, the American holding that owns Sphere. The peculiarity is that the film will be projected on the LEDs that cover the inside of the venue’s sphere, for 15 thousand square meters. The arena, we read on the American website of “Rolling Stone”, promises high resolution images and a diffused audio system. For now, a possible version for traditional cinemas or for streaming has not been communicated.
Along with the announcement, a trailer was released in which The Edge can be heard joking: “After all these years, I can still see a U2 concert.”
In a press release reported by “Rolling Stone US”, the guitarist explained: “The goal is to offer viewers an immersive experience as close as possible to that of a live concert in the series ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere’, and then some.
I’ve never seen a U2 show, so I’m so relieved to have captured a great one.” Morleigh Steinberg, who directed U2’s “Staring at the Sun” video, added: “Even though we knew the technology was amazing, we weren’t sure what to expect from the process of making this film. It became a true collaboration between the band, artists, producers and technology teams. The end result is a cinematic experience that immerses viewers in the energy and beauty of a live show.”
