U2 pay homage to Navalny: “Putin will never say his name”
“Putin will never pronounce his name. I thought that today there are free people, people who believe in freedom… We must pronounce his name. It’s not enough to remember it. Talk about it”: so Bono, last night, during the U2 concert in Las Vegas, invited the crowd to pay homage to Alexei Navalny, the Russian activist, politician and blogger who died in prison on February 16 after being one of the most well-known opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The over 17 thousand spectators at the MSG Sphere, which is hosting the Irish band’s residency, did not hesitate: they chanted Navalny’s name in unison, together with Bono, then U2 started playing “Don’t Dream It’s Over”.
