Tyler, The Creator’s Favorite Songs
Tyler, The Creator, posted a list of his favorite songs released in 2024 on social media. A sort of personal soundtrack of the year, a list of songs that highlights his eclectic taste and his appreciation for music tout court, without distinctions of genre. He revealed the fifteen tracks that he believes have defined the twelve months of 2024, according to his vision. The list features an impressive mix of artists and genres. Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX”, American rapper GloRilla’s “Hollon” and ScHoolboy Q’s “Cooties” have earned their place alongside gems like the introspective “Dominican Barber” by Lupe Fiasco, the award-winning American rapper and singer Grammy Award, and Tommy Richman’s animated “Green Therapy.”.
Tyler also mentioned atmospheric “uaintfrmhere” by KnxwledgeAmerican hip hop record producer and songwriter from New Jersey. There’s no shortage of ego trips: the West Coast artist is included in the list his track, “Judge Judy”. Addressing a fan who criticized this choice, Tyler responded: “Yes, I like the music I make.” He also expressed gratitude for the music that shaped his year, saying, “Thank you all for these songs. I’m so grateful to be able to listen to them. I love you. I would like to eat them…“.
Over the years, as Michele Boroni recalled in our review to his latest album “Chromakopia”we had the opportunity to observe the artistic complexity of a character like Tyler, The Creator, the Californian rapper who founded the crew Odd Future (the same one where they were born Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt and Syd). Tyler is out of the circle of rappers who use a thousand producers, authors and beatmakers, but each of his records is proudly written, produced and arranged by himself. Each of his albums then tells a complex story in which he plays a fictitious character or alter ego, Dr. TC and his evil side Tron Cat in “Wolf” and “Cherry Bomb”, the IGOR with the blonde wig in the eponymous album, Sir Tyler Baudelaire in “Call me if you get lost”all masks that allow him to reveal his unconscious, reinventing himself. And then in each of his albums he builds an entire aesthetic world, a thousand miles away from the hip-hop imagery we usually witness, but made up of chromatic choices, clothing, quotes and graphic elements that are always of great refinement. “Chromakopia” is no exception, we will listen to it live on April 30th at the Unipol Forum in Assago, when the artist will be the protagonist of a concert. The album totally photographs, once again, his eclecticism which is impossible not to notice even among the folds of songs proposed in his 2024 playlist.
