Tonight, August 24th in Melpignano, the 27th edition of the Concertone de La Notte della Taranta will be held, which sees Shablo (here is our interview) covering the role of “concertmaster”, a task last year entrusted to Fiorella Mannoia and the previous year to Dardust (Dario Faini).

The event, promoted by the Fondazione La Notte della Taranta and supported by the Puglia Region, aims to celebrate the musical tradition of Salento with songs from the popular repertoire and songs in minority languages ​​such as Griko and Arbëreshë.

Among the guests of the Concertone, whose theme this year is “Generazione Taranta”, Angelina Mango, Geolier, Gaia, Ste, and Luca Faraone will perform on stage, who will interpret their own songs in new versions and traditional songs revisited with urban arrangements by Shablo, performed by the Orchestra Popolare directed by Riccardo Zangirolami.

The Concertone di Melpignano, which will see Ema Stokholma conduct the evening, will be broadcast live in prime time on RAI 3 and Rai Radio 2.

As explained in a press release, the opening of the event will be entrusted to a choir on “Pizzica di Aradeo” and for the first time performed on the stage of Melpignano the traditional “Tarantella di Sannicandro” with Giancarlo Paglialunga.

Space for an unreleased “Manushaqe” in Arbëreshë performed by Salvatore Galeanda. Followed by an overwhelming “Pizzica di Copertino” entrusted to the female voices of the Orchestra Popolare tutte le donne. On “Pizzica di San Marzano di San Giuseppe” performed by Enza Pagliara, the conductor Riccardo Zangirolami explained that he discovered with great surprise that the “Suite n. 2” by Sergej Vasil’evic Rachmaninov is inspired precisely by the popular song. The first guest on the Melpignano (LE) stage lineup will be Angelina Mango who will perform “Su Picculina” in the Salento dialect and will give the audience a new version of her Sanremo single “La noia”. A “Pizzica di San Vito” performed by all the voices of the Taranta opens the sequence of hit songs in the history of the Concertone: “Lu Ruciu de lu mare” with Antonio Amato, “Pizzica di Villa Castelli” with Alessandra Caiulo, “Pizzica degli Ucci” with the three male voices of the Orchestra Galeanda, Amato and Paglialunga, the very ballad “Pizzicarella” with Stefania Morciano, “Acqua de la Funtana” with Consuelo Alfieri. The second guest will be Geolier with the pizzicato version of “I pì me, tu p’ te” and a medley with Shablo of “Grazia/M Manc”. It continues with the song in Grico “Klama” sung by Alessandra Caiulo. A journey between Argentine tango, Shablo’s homage to her homeland, and Salento is “Malachianta”. The “Pizzica di Taranto” performed by Salvatore Galeanda will open the third part of the Concertone which will host Gaia engaged in a dance performance on “Mena Mena Mò” and followed by her hit “Chega” in Portuguese. Antonio Amato returns with “Aria Caddhipulina” which welcomes the fourth guest of the evening, Ste, who will sing “Tammurriata Nera” to introduce the new song “Lose control”. The second song in Arbëreshë is “Lule Lule” performed by Enza Pagliara who will then pay homage to Giovanna Marini. We continue towards the finale with “Mamma la rondinella sung” by Cosuelo Alfieri, “Pizzica di Cosimino” with Giancarlo Pagliualunga, “Ec Ec” third song in Arbëreshë with Stefania Morciano. The guitarist and author Luca Faraone will play the songs “Taranta di Lizzano” and “Fuecu”. The Melpignano Concertone will close, as per tradition, with the farewell hymn “Calinitta-Buona Notte” shared by the audience.
