Tom Waits sings “Tom Traubert’s blues”: the video
Some time ago we told you about the fantastic documentary story “Last Stop”, made by Luigi Montebello with the authors and directors Angelo Loy, Martino Mazzonis, telling the story of the “last” on earth, the homeless Americans. Montebello was incredibly successful in involving Tom Waits in the documentary, who returned to singing after years of absence from the stage. “Being there, in his recording studio, and witnessing the magic of his fingers on the piano, while his voice vibrated in the room, was an unforgettable moment. Having the chance to capture it in the documentary is a privilege that I will always carry with me” he told Rockol.
The documentary has been available on RaiPlay for some time, but a few days ago Waits made available on his YouTube channel one of the most memorable moments of that unique collaboration, the piano and voice performance of his classic Tom Traubert’s blues”. Here is the video
Montebello told us:
“Working with Tom Waits on this documentary was an extraordinary and deeply enriching experience. He and his wife, Kathleen Brennan, are incredible people: deep, professional and genuinely invested in the topic. From the moment they decided to come on board the project, our dialogue was continuous, leading us to define together their contribution to the film
Except for a few impromptu appearances, Tom Waits has been largely absent from the scene for over a decade: with the help of Tiberio Snaidero – author of “The art of being Tom Waits” (VoloLibero) – we have reconstructed the last stages of his career
