Tom Morello: “easier by soloist than with a band”
The guitarist of Rage Against The Machine Tom Morello During the Canadian radio program The Stromba Show conducted by George Stroumboulopoulos He said he prefers the solo work with respect to the inevitable dynamics that are created within a band. As a soloist he has greater creative freedom.
To the question about the freedom to manage his artistic direction, he explained his perspective at solo work from the one in groups. This is Morello’s thought in this regard: “Although I could only be very grateful for having been part of the great bands I have been part of, in some ways I am made to be a solo artist, with that sort of authoritarian nature.”
He then deepened the practical advantages of working alone, in particular when it comes to creative and dynamic collaboration decisions. Also quoting Roman, the teenager son with whom he has been playing lately. “The idea that the meetings with the band are very short, now I play with my son. If we have a disagreement, I send him to his room. This meeting with the band is over. We will play that riff and we will see.”
Having seen in this way the decision -making process is certainly much more streamlined than having to discuss every point together with bandmates. The US guitarist has announced several solo concerts for 2025 which he described, as reported by Eclaim!, As occasions in which: “dangerous agreements will be strummed! Dangerous songs will be sung! Dangerous truths will be said!”.
