The Puddle of Mudd: A Tribute to Staley, Bennington and Cornell

THE Puddle of Mudd they released a lyric video of the song “Firefly”included on the band’s latest album, “Kiss The Machine”released last May.

The frontman of the group, Wes Scantlinof the song explained, “I wrote ‘Firefly’ as a tribute to Layne Staley, Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell, and all the fallen soldiers who gave their lives. Their voices and sacrifices lit a fire in me, and I wanted this song to be a way to keep their light alive.”

Adding further, “They’ve all struggled with demons that most people couldn’t see, and the song is my way of acknowledging that pain while keeping their light alive. I’ve faced my own battles, and I’m in a better place now. I feel lucky to still be here. I’m a lucky man. Music heals me, and I hope it heals others, too.”

Another topic that is touched on “Firefly” it is the nostalgia of childhood. Wes Scantlin in this regard he says: “I miss my grandmother. She kicked us out of the kitchen before dinner and sent us outside, where we caught fireflies in jars and transformed them into improvised lanterns. Those sweet and beautiful memories stayed with me and are intertwined in this song. I wanted that feeling of joy and light to live in the song together with the sadness.
