The new era of Tame Impala
A new life, a new sound, a new album. Kevin Parker relaunches his project Tame Impala with energy and vitality five years after the latest album “The Slow Rush” of 2020, raising the level of curiosity of the fans. “Deadbeat”, his fifth album will be released on 17 October. In this album, Parker has enclosed a series of powerful club-psychch explorations and “some of his most direct and cerebral texts so far”, reads the presentation. It is deeply inspired by the Bush Doof culture (a type of outdoor dance party generally kept in a remote countryside area or outside a big city) and the rave scene of Western Australiathus transforming impalas into a sort of primitive shamanic of the future.
Conceived in different locations over the last few years, “Deadbeat” was mainly built between the hometown of Parker, Fremantle, and his study, wave house in Injidupin Western Australia, in the first half of 2025. The album will also contain the new single “Loser”, second extract after “End of Summer”, whose video was directed by the multidisciplinary artist Julian Klincewicz. “Loser” continues the bold exploration of Parker on rhythm and sound experimentation, based on the meticulous approach he has in the studio and who has always characterized his career. The song is accompanied by a video directed by Kristofski and played by the actor/musician Joe Keary. “Loser” has a melancholy, but does not gloomy atmosphere. Parker works with a slow and stratified groove, suspended between rarefied funk and soft psychedelia. However, it does not make the center as with “End of Summer”a beautiful piece published as the first extract, with references to the summer of the 1989 ACID House, to the mid -90s parties, to the Bush Doof in the Australian hinterland clearings. From the point of view of the texts, “Deadbeat” wants to tell a sense of disappointment in not being able to “be everything”.
After having widely explored the concept of time in “The Slow Rush” (2020), “Deadbeat” focuses on the smallest shades of daily emotions. On the cover is depicted with his daughter Peach. The image is not just a family portrait: it becomes a powerful visual symbol of the central theme of the album, between introspection, guilt, and the challenge to balance creativity and family life. Administered together with the euphoric and draining impulses of music, “Deadbeat” wants to present the rave as an inner exploration, a self -medication. The continuing of the party is a sort of domestic bliss. By drawing on the very rich history of dance music, work wants to transform the present. Kevin Parker emerged how one of the most influential voices of the last decade.
